Spring is on it's way...

And if you have not yet redecorated after Christmas then this is great news for you! Not only will you not be spending double the money redecorating but you can also have a little more fun with whichever color palette you choose for spring.

One of the things I love about spring is how bold and/or soft you can choose your color palette to be; whichever direction you choose to go in you will either go bold colors like vibrant blues, yellows, and/or reds or you can take the safe route more toward a neutral palette with pops of pastel color accents.

Unfortunately due to software issues I have not been able to edit anymore videos but i'm hoping that will be changing soon. It's one of the changes that will really makes things so much easier for me because as of now editing on my husbands pc is almost near impossible.

However, I hope you guys continue to support my blog even though I've been having several technical difficulties as well as personal life changes that have taken place and have made blogging/filming a bit difficult. Here is a video on decorating with neutrals which was the second video I promised you guys!

Let me know which color scheme would you most likely lean toward for your next after Christmas redecorating time!

Lots of love,

Melissa

Use your God Given Talents...

Hi dolls! Today I am feeling super amazing, and greatful!  I just had to share with you the joy I've been getting by putting my "god given talent" to use to help others. It makes me feel so happy to know that I have helped someone who may need guidance of what to do when it comes to designing or decorating. It has also made aware of the blessings god has given me within the past year by redirecting my path towards what I should have been doing a long time ago.

My mind literally has always raced when it comes to decorating, I can come into a room and already envision what items I would put in a certain areas, what I would use as accent pieces, what type of furniture and colors to use. My sister, and family members have always told me they have no idea how i can look at room and pick out items to purchase and where to place them because they cannot see what I do until it's actually there lol.

Looking back now I've always been into decorating I remember when I was about 6yrs old I would cut paper in designs to put around my room, when my mother would ask me "what is all this paper mess?" My response would always be I'm using it to decorate. As I got older I remember always watching trading spaces, and any decorating shows during my high school years. One time I even convinced my mother to let me paint our room sky blue with clouds everywhere because I wanted to feel as though I was in heaven. Now that I think about it I was trying to create an atmosphere that would provide me with some type of visual other than plain white walls.

After my parents moved to another home in Hackensack, NJ I decided to make it a little more girly by painting my sisters & I's room in purple & pink again looking back at those memories I was always trying to decorate or redesign something although at that time I would consider myself to have been a total decorating amateur lol.

Over the years as I've grown and have had the blessing to have lived in an apartment and now a house. My eye for decorating & design  has in a sense become perfected with time. I have a long way to go to be like some of my favorite Interior Designers from HGTV but now that I have decided to pursue this as more than just a hobby I have fully became aware of my "god given talent" I'm anxious to see where it takes me!

With that being said I encourage you all to explore your "god given talents" and put them to use. Especially by helping others you are not only practicing your craft but the satisfaction you get about doing something you love is definitely priceless. I feel truly blessed to have been able to help people, friends and family with my creative & visual eye for design.

What do you consider to be your "god given talents?"

Susy's New Living Room

Susy's New Living RoomSusy's New Living Room by designrevelation on Polyvore

This was a special request I had from a friend of mine through pregnancy. She wants to redo her living room area but did not know what to do or where to start. I created this not only as inspiration but for actual items she can purchase during the time of her redeocorating process.

Her space is a bit difficult to work with but I will be drawing out her floorplan of her living space & where each of these items will be located in her living room and will be emailing that to her.

She really did not give me any direction other than her realizing her couches were bulky after reading my blog post on "how to maximize your minimal space" so I just went with what I envisioned in her space. I hope you like it Susy! xo

How to maximize your minimal space

There is always a way you can improve your space to better function your lifestyle. However, sometimes we can or may become use to a certain set up and be afraid of change. If this is the case I'm here to help you embrace all the possibilities change can bring to you!

If you ever heard of the phrase "change is good" then try to remember to apply this when thinking of redecorating your home and/or space. Don't get me wrong if your not comfortable or willing to be submissive to change then by owe means DO NOT paint your walls a bold orange lol, even being subtle with change is good :)

Maximizing your space (The 5 Basics) Everyone Needs to know:

 1. Start by Decluttering: Yes you read right if you have no idea what decluttering is then just look around your home/space and think about all of things out on display, things that you maybe don't even use. These items need to be put away and/or thrown away or better yet donated to Goodwill. when you have clutter in an already small space it will just make it overwhelming to be in and almost make it look as if there is a mess when to you it may not seem so. It's also a great way to train yourself not to become a hoarder lol just kidding no but really lol. REMEMBER LESS IS MORE!

2. Avoid Bulky Furniture: Bulky furniture not only takes up a lot of space but it also makes a decent amount of space look smaller than it's true size. You want to make sure to stay away from "bulky" when investing in furniture because sooner or later it will need to be replaced due to moves and/or redecorating.

For Example: This recliner on the left is bulky try going for perhaps a nice comfy chair like the on on the right instead.

3. Multiple Use Items: These are overall great when it comes to maximizing your space. They are basically items and/or furniture that will give you storage while maintaining an esthetic appeal to your decor.

For Example: A storage ottoman that can be used both as a coffee table, leg rest and storing things of course!

4. Use Mirrors: Mirrors give a reflection which can create an illusion of an extended amount of space that truly is not there; making it seem that it is more open and bigger than what it actually is. It also helps reflect light which can brighten up a room and create a cozy yet open atmosphere.

For example: Do you see how this dining area appears to be bigger and the illusion it has created within the space?

5. Last but not least use glass or clear furniture pieces: Using glass or clear furniture pieces will allow you to see through the furniture acting almost as what I would consider a "magic trick" when it comes to decorating. This would typically work great in an office, bedroom and or an eat in kitchen area where the space tends to be very minimal. Below is an example of clear furniture and the illusion it can create:

So there you have it, 5 Basic everyone should know about maximizing their minimal space! I hope you have found this blog post useful & inspiring! Let me know in the comments below if I have given you any ideas or mentioned anything you were not familiar with before, I would love to know what steps you will be taking to maximize your minimal space :)

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree....

Everyone has a favorite holiday and for me that holiday is Christmas! Not only are we celebrating the birth of Christ but we are around family; it's something about the festivities and decorations that just make me so mushy & gives me the ultimate cozy feeling.

Usually I tend to get sad when I take the Christmas tree down but this year however that was not the case. I was excited for new beginnings as well as new decor to change in my house even if that  change will be taking place in February.

The color palette I have in mind is perfect for after Christmas right before spring. I really can't wait to share the details with you soon in an upcoming video on my new YouTube channel. Till then here is my super cute and all time favorite Christmas tree that I decorated all on my own.
